Google Pixel features that Nexus will NOT get

So, yesterday, we got word that an Android 7.1 update is headed for the still-eligible Nexus devices. Now, since the new Pixel phones present a new concept, we were kind of wondering whether the Nexus line would get some of the shiny new stuff, such as that cool new launcher with a slide-up app drawer, or the unlimited storage for original quality photos and videos. We asked Google, and Nexus owners might not like the answer:

An Android 7.1 Nougat update is indeed headed for older devices and the first Developer Preview should be available later this month. However, Nexus owners will not get:

Pixel Launcher
The Google Assistant is staying on the Pixel
Google Assistant
Unlimited storage for original quality photo / video
Smart Storage
Pixel Camera app
Phone support (24-hour hotline)
Screen-share (part of the support service)

Obviously, don't expect a Nexus to support Google's Daydream platform as well since it's a very hardware-heavy system with strict guidelines.It's kind of a bummer for users who bought the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P just last year on the promise that they will be getting the latest and greatest from Google for at least 24 months. Sure, you will get regular and timely Android updates for at least one more year, maybe more, but the Nexus 6P did cost a pretty penny and is considered a premium device. This update feels more like a Samsung / LG move — dividing its different generations of devices by UI and features — than a Google update.
